With eight stories, the unpretentious Marriott Hongqiao feels like a boutique hotel compared to its soaring competitors in Hongqiao. The hotel is quiet; inside Premier rooms have balconies overlooking the third-floor poolside courtyard. Porcelain vases and Ming-influenced furniture add some Chinese flair to the generously sized rooms. The Manhattan Steakhouse serves tender, juicy steaks; the Marriott Café has an excellent Sunday brunch; and the Champions Bar offers many after-work promotions. When making reservations, be sure to ask about special rates and packages, especially on weekends.
