Heng Shan Moller Villa Review

Part gingerbread dollhouse, part castle, the Heng Shan Moller Villa was built by British businessman Eric Moller to resemble a castle his daughter envisioned in a dream. The family fled Shanghai in 1941, and after 1949 the house was the Communist Youth League's headquarters. Now a boutique hotel, the original villa has 11 deluxe rooms and has been ostentatiously restored with parquet floors, chintzy crystal chandeliers, and too much gold paint. Standard rooms in Building No. 2 are disappointingly plain, and service is merely perfunctory. Guests have access to the neighboring Shanghai Grand Club's excellent fitness center.
