The weekly chamber-music concert in its lobby is just one example of how the Jing An Hotel has retained its elegance and charm. Set in a 1½-acre garden, the Spanish-style main building has a lobby with beautiful stained-glass windows. The ornate upstairs dining rooms often host prominent city officials. Although the facilities are lacking compared to newer hotels, the hotel's lush setting in the Former French Concession make it a lovely respite from Shanghai's crowded
sidewalks. Rooms in the Jing An New Building should be avoided at all costs (bathrooms are barely the size of a closet).
