Fodor's Review

One of Shanghai's most revered buildings, the Broadway Mansions Hotel has anchored the northern end of the Bund since 1934. The worn wood furniture, industrial bathrooms, and steam radiators betray its age. In contrast, the business rooms are strikingly modern, with cool gray-and-tan color schemes, glass-topped desks and nightstands, and separate marble showers and tubs. Request a room on a higher floor for a better night's sleep.

Good Value but lacking.....

Visited in December 2005 at Xmas time .Well situated looking back along the Bund .It is Chinese owned with most staff speaking little or no English or just not being interested so , if you want a helpful concierge , forget it . We upgraded ( when we booked it through our agent )to the Executive floor which we found out after checkin included breakfast of corn flakes in little motel packets ,white bread to toast and fluorescent jam / butter in foil

packets and bad coffee .Breakfast in the main dining room under fluorescent lights was pretty awful with fried eggs like rubber bullets .We did eat there for dinner once and it was ok . Our room had a great view over The Bund / River and had been repainted and furbished. We knew that because it stank of paint / chemicals.Fortunately you can open the windows .The bathroom had been openned up to the bedroom with large bath / shower etc and was nicely fitted .Large king size bed , cable tv . A bit of traffic noise as an expressway is nearby and traffic in Shanghai slows only at about 2am until about 5am was my impression so leaving a window open invites noise in .So despite its history I would have reservations about going back or recommending it outright save as to price which was pretty good .I think there are better options - The Peace Hotel it ain't .
