$$-$$$$, Xuhui
Fodor's Review:
Just off the frenzied shopping street of Huaihai Road, the Donghu Hotel remains one of Shanghai's best preserved hotels from the city's 1920s heyday. The hotel's seven buildings have a surprising array of restaurants -- Korean barbecue and Japanese, in addition to the standard Chinese and Western fare -- an indoor pool, and a wide variety of room options. "Superior" rooms in Building 7 don't quite live up to their title and are simply furnished with twin beds and rather mismatched yellow wallpaper and red carpet. We suggest the Donghu deluxe rooms across the street at Building 1 -- with their traditional Chinese furniture and dark-wood paneling, these spacious rooms make you feel as if you've stepped back in time.
