Bus Travel
Bus travel through the area can often be the best way to go, though it is complicated for the uninitiated. At the Guangzhou main railway station where metro Lines 2 and 5 cross, you can go to the "Guangdong Automobile Station" (really the long-distance bus station, confusingly translated) and catch buses to most other cities in the Pearl River Delta. There is an English-speaking ticket window for foreigners, and all the bus waiting areas have the names of the destinations in pinyin. Your hotel might be able to help you by writing a detailed note about where you want to go.
