Fodor's Review

After four years at the Hyatt Regency, Chef Afonso Carrao Pereira decided to open his own place and cook the way his grandmother did. The result is his modest café in the heart of downtown near Senado Square, with an intimate space downstairs of dark wood and stucco, and a more expansive upstairs. The food consists of simple, hearty, traditional dishes served in huge portions, mostly to Portuguese expatriates and Macanese locals. Your best bets are the daily specials, which invariably include bacalhau (Portuguese salted codfish), braised pork, or beef stew probably better than any other you'll taste in Macau. The wine list is extensive, and comes in generous goblets or by the bottle.
