Arguably Hong Kong's most famous—if not most perpetually packed—indoor dai pai dong, Tung Po has communal tables large enough to fit 18 guests, and the restaurant’s walls are scribbled with its ever-growing list of specials. The food is Hong Kong cuisine with fusion innovations, and you should wash everything down with a cold beer (served here in Chinese soup bowls). Try the spaghetti with cuttlefish, which is flavored with aromatic, jet-black, fresh squid
ink. The seafood dishes and stir-fries are all satisfying, but it’s really the atmosphere that makes Tung Po a must-visit. Owner Robby Cheung is one of the most delightful characters in the Hong Kong dining biz. Later in the evening, he’ll blast the latest pop songs from the sound system. If you’re lucky, you might just catch him in one of his moonwalking moods.
