Fodor's Review:

The breathtaking 3.5-mile (5.7-km) cable-car journey takes you above the Lantau Island's greenery, from Tung Chung to Ngong Ping. During the 25-minute ride, you get a glimpse of the Big Buddha, sitting and smiling peacefully on a mountaintop.

  • Cost: HK$58-68 one-way; HK$88-98 round-trip.
  • Open: Weekdays 10-6; weekends 10-6:30

Even though it was a foggy, hazy day when we took the skyrail to the Po Lin Monastery we could still see the beautiful green mountains, a view of the international airport, and the 80 foot bronze buddha while our 8 seater gondola slowly made its way to the top. I recommend you take a light coat, as all gondolas venting windows are open and it is cooler at the higher altitude. This beats taking the bus for sure!
