Royal Plaza Review

The Royal Plaza is easily accessed from the connecting Mong Kok East MTR station, and is probably the northernmost location up Nathan Road any tourists would travel on their own, just across the street from the morning Flower Market. As part of the massive Grand Century Place complex, the environment may be overwhelming. The mall is almost always swarming with dense crowds of shoppers navigating through narrow spaces, and it's easy to get lost in the maze. The hotel is less significant for its seamless integration within the mall than for its singular location in Kowloon. The Bird Market lies at the end of Flower Market Road, and pedestrian overpasses will lead you past the Goldfish Market and into the Ladies Market, where you can also duck into the Mong Kok MTR station. Simply but comfortably furnished rooms have views of Lion Rock and the rest of Kowloon, and are surprisingly quiet. Another hotel highlight is the rooftop 130-foot-long Roman-style pool with underwater music.

While the location was fine, connected to the mall and the KCR east rail (I forget the new name), the room was dingy and the bed was rock hard. We had someone else make our reservation and ended having to move twice, but the staff was helpful to move our luggage each time (we just left it in the old room and found it in the new) - but each change required standing in line to check-in. The second room was on the club floor - so we stopped in the club for coffee only to find out that we were not on the list. No explanation except that it wasn't included in our over-priced suite. Not on our repeat list, for sure.
