Fodor's Review

Spacious rooms with sweeping views of Hong Kong Island are near the shopping hub along Canton Road and linked to Harbour City's immense shopping complex. The place is especially popular when the hotel hosts its acclaimed Oktoberfest celebrations: an upper entrance leads to an open-air terrace (with unsullied harbor views) that serves as a venue for a 23-day-long beer festival, so depending on your fondness for beer and those who swill it, you may want to plan a stay accordingly.

The hotel shares its pool, spa, and fitness facilities with two other nearby Marco Polo properties.

Now you know why Marco Polo loved teh Cathay!

This hotel has been renamed the Marco Polo HongKong Hotel. I never really likd staying at Tsim Sha Tsui, because of the touristy feel of Nathan Road and all, and my love for HK island itself ( i grew up there). But I must say a stay at the HK Hotel changed my perception totally. Upon my check-in, I requested for a room with a nice view. I was upgraded to a harbour view room by this staff who is so enthusiastic you would never believe the HK people's

suffering from a morale problem from the current recession. When I entered the room, I was surprised to note the spaciousness, as hotel rooms in HK are known to be extremely small. The decor of a mix of classic oriental and classic european is really cool! Very quaint furniture and a nice big bathroom. The bed was the most comfy I ever slept on in my life! And now, here's the killer -- the view from my room. It overlooks the Macao ferry harbour and the HK island city skyline. At night, when the lights of the Bank of China Tower, Lippo Centre and all lit up, it was like a postcard right before you! Now, it's only possible to see such a breathtaking view from Kowloon, and no wonder people like HK island, because they see it from Kowloon! Upon checkout, I praised the hotel through a comments form. When I finally reached home two days later, there was already a letter from the Manager thanking me for my stay and comments in my mailbox. Impressive and makes me wanna go back again. And guess what? All these were done with only US$135 each night! Real bargain!

Location - Location - LOCATION!

I stayed at the HongKong Hotel at 3 Canton Road twice in 1999. I stayed on the Continental Club floor (17 or 18). This feature came with rt Airport transfers, full breakfast, all day coffee and tea service, evening beverages, newspapers, express check- in and check-out on the 17th floor. The staff and service was excellent. I exchanged some currency. I didn't realize it at the time, but it turned out that the currency clerk had shorted 100 HK on the

exchange. When I returned to my room later that day, I found a note to come down to the currency exchange counter in the lobby. When I got there, they gave me an envelope containing the 100 HK dollars. I thought that was just exceptional. The hotel is only a 1 minute walk from the Star Ferry and just steps from terrific shopping. Canton road itself has nice restaurants, AND convenience stores, for those of you who don't care for mini-bar prices. Directly across the street from the hotel, is a bus stop, where you can pick up a bus to Aberdeen, Repulse Bay, and Stanley. The bus ride itself was exhilirating. The Continental Club room was not overly large, and didn't have a view. But the housekeeping was surpurb, the bed was a king size, and the bathroom was very big. You can get rooms with Harbor views, but I didn't think it was needed, as the hotel is close to the harbor. The hotel arranges the airport transfers for you, and the service was flawless. It was about 45 minutes coming in from the airport. I will be returning to this hotel again this fall.
