Book NowIsland Shangri-La Review
This trademark elliptical building has become an icon of Hong Kong, as has The Great Motherland of China, the world's largest Chinese silk painting, which is housed in its glass atrium. The painting, which spans 16 stories, can be viewed from elevators soaring up and down through the atrium, carrying guests to their rooms. The lobby of this deluxe hotel sparkles with 771 Austrian crystal chandeliers hanging from high ceilings and huge, sun-drenched windows. Take the elevator up from the 39th floor and see the mainland's misty mountains drift by. Rooms are some of the largest on Hong Kong Island, and have magnificent views of the harbor, city, or Peak; all boast opulent furniture and tasteful design, a chandelier, as well as all-in-one bedside control panels. For upscale dining there's the scenic, formal French restaurant Pétrus on the top floor.

A Hong Kong business travel delight. First and always, the gracious staff. Doesn't matter when I arrive (early morning via SQ from SFO, mid-day via TG from BKK, or late-night via SQ from SIN), the fine employees always seem to anticipate my preferences and do 'deliver'. ... (Should add: unlike some 'hard-core' HK SL Island business travellers, I average ~ 12 nights/year at this property, and am normally booked in the 'lower' room categories.) ... Something in this hotel's 'DNA' that warms my heart. (I also average ~ 25 nights/year for work at her 'sister' property in Bangkok - could partially explain the 'family feeling' that envelopes me here in Hong Kong). ... As for insider 'tips' to make your SL Island stay all the more memorable: spring for a 'Horizon' level harbour view room/suite - certain evenings, rather memorable. (And, if so inclined, not a problem arranging for 'outside' masseuses to venture over to your softly lit lodging.) ... Thank you, SL Island staff, for a most recent - and joyous - business visit.
