Tokio Joe

$$-$$$$, Japanese, Central

User Rating: *** 3.4

Fodor's Review:

This funky casual Japanese joint in Lan Kwai Fong serves "user-friendly Japanese food" with attentive and courteous finesse, yet without intimidating formality. The interior is fun -- beautiful ceramic pots line faux-fur walls. Chefs work in a central bar area, and lend a wonderfully contemporary twist to some classic dishes. Selections include spicy toro tartare, kelp-grilled sea bass, and battered tempura shrimp. Ask for a sake recommendation. For dessert, try homemade sesame ice cream.

Large sushi selection

Posted by sunromancer from San Luis Obispo, CA on 4/7/08

This tiny place in the hip Lan Kwai Fong district had a large menu selection of sushi, sashimi, and tempuras. The tempura wagyu was excellent, although pricey. The only thing I was not happy with was the coldness and snobbery of the wait staff. They don't want you just sitting around enjoying yourself. They want you to spend money and then leave so they can fill the table with more paying customers. At least that was how I felt. Still worth going to for the food!
