Mausoleum of the 72 Martyrs

  • Address: Xianlie Zhong Lu, Guangzhou

Fodor's Review:

In a prelude to the successful revolution of 1911 a group of 88 revolutionaries staged the Guangzhou armed uprising, only to be defeated and executed by the authorities. Of those killed, 72 were buried here. Their memorial, built in 1918, incorporates a mixture of international symbols of freedom and democracy, including replicas of the Statue of Liberty.
