Guangxiao Temple

  • Address: Renmin Bei Lu, 3 blocks north of the Ximenkou metro, Guangzhou

Fodor's Review:

This impressively restored temple and city-gate complex, also known as the Five Celestials Shrine, was once the front gate for the wall that surrounded the city. The shrine and remaining sections of the wall in Yuexiu Park are the only pieces of old Guangzhou's fortifications still standing. The complex also has an impressive 3D model of how the city looked when the air was clean, the roads were filled with horse-drawn carts, and foreigners were confined on pain of death to one small section of the city.

  • Cost: 10
