Mo Li Fang Theater presents nightly performances of their original multimedia dinner-theater cabaret The Magic Phantom, combining elements of traditional Beijing Opera, Hong Kong Cinema, puppetry, karaoke, acrobatics, dancing, and computer animation. The play is in Putonghua, but the story is fairly simple: A young prince of the kingdom of Nanyue finds a magic ring that allows him to travel through time and space. His travels take him and his consort to prohibition-era Chicago, Republican-era Shanghai, and outer space. As if this weren't enough to justify the price of admission, each member of the audience is served a pre-performance meal literally fit for a king, with eight separate and sumptuous dishes served in crystal bowls by waiters in full ancient costume. An evening well spent for all senses—see our front section for more about this terrific show, which begins at 7 PM nightly with matinees Saturdays and Sundays. Tickets are available at the box office, or through the front desk of most hotels.
