Feel the Buzz! This region is the undisputed engine driving China's current economic boom, and whether you're in Guangzhou or Shenzhen, you're sure to feel the buzz of this formerly Socialist nation on a serious capitalist joyride.

Explore the Ancient. Though thoroughly modern, the Pearl River Delta has by no means lost touch with its ancient roots. From the temples of Guangzhou to the Ming Dynasty-walled city of Dapeng in Shenzhen, a journey through the PRD is a journey through the centuries.

Soak Up Some Colonial Splendor Guangzhou is rife with well-preserved examples of architecture dating back to the 19th century, when European merchants amassed fortunes in the opium trade, and the buildings from which they once plied their trade still stand.

Shopping! Shopping! Shopping! Need We Say More?

Colonial Shamian During the late Qing Dynasty, Westerners weren't all that welcome, and those doing business were relegated to Shamian, a small island in the Pearl River. These colonial captains of industry built churches, banks, mansions, and hotels that are today beautifully restored for your visiting pleasure.

White Cloud Mountain Take a trip away from the madding crowd at White Cloud Mountain. Climb to the top of Santailing Park, listen to the birds in Bird Spring Valley Park, and check out Jinye Pond, whose waters are said to be so clear that it acts as a mirror, clearly reflecting the surrounding mountains.

Overseas Chinese Town Culture's the name of the game in Shenzhen's Overseas Chinese Town (OCT District) area, and scattered around the neighborhood are an array of sculptures commissioned by the city fathers to "class up the joint." If you don't like your art alfresco, check out the rotating exhibits at the He Xiangning Art Museum.

Mission Hills The Chinese have gone mad for golfing and nowhere else in the country is the passion for golf as well-catered to as in the Pearl River Delta. If you've come to the middle kingdom to hit the links, the world-class Mission Hills Golf Club will blow your mind.
