When to Go
Eastern China has mildly cool winters (the temperature rarely dips below zero) and long, hot summers. The monsoon period extends from April through June, and typhoons can strike at any time through the late summer and autumn. If at all possible avoid traveling around the big Chinese national festivals (National Day, Oct. 1; May Day, May 1; and the Lunar New Year, late January or early February).
