Few tour routes these days have exclusive planners just for China's central coast, which is a pity. After all, the provinces of Zhejiang and Fujian have much on offer for bicyclists, hikers, ocean swimmers, and windsurfers. And as one of China's first Special Economic Zones, Xiamen is currently awash with cash but still hasn't lost its old-world charm. Fall and spring are the ideal times to visit the region. Spring, especially April and May, have very comfortable temperatures and the trees and flowers are in full bloom. Hot and muggy summer is not the best time to visit—many of the cities are uncomfortable from mid-June though August. The region has a long and very pleasant fall season—moderate weather and clear skies lasting into early December. Chinese tourists flood in during the two "Golden Week" holidays at the start of May and October, so try to avoid those two weeks. Most of the region's sights are open daily.
