Nanxincang (Nánxîncâng)

Nanxincang (Nánxîncâng) Review

China's oldest existing granary, dating back to the Yongle period (1403-24), is now Beijing's newest entertainment venue. It's home to three art galleries, a teahouse, and several bars and restaurants, including a branch of the famed Dadong Roast Duck. The structures at Nanxincang—just 10 years younger than those of the Forbidden City—were among the more than 300 granaries that existed in this area during imperial days. Have a glass of wine on the second floor of Yuefu, an audio and book shop, where you can admire the old interior, then have dinner at one of the excellent restaurants in the compound.
