Commune by the Great Wall (Chánghéng jiaoxià gongshè) Review

An hour from Beijing, Commune offers a dash of modernity amid the wild hills and scrubland of Badaling; there's certainly plenty of space, so it's an ideal spot for families and small groups, with Bamboo House and Suitcase House providing the pick of its bespoke villas (designed by renowned Asian architects), although each lodging offers stunning views of the Great Wall, as well as private access. Facilities such as a kids club, pool, restaurants and spa mean that, even though you're out in the sticks, you needn't get your hands dirty—the only downside is that the staff appear to have the same attitude.
