Tucked away in a hutong, the tiny Haoyuan has rooms surrounding two courtyards. Try to book one of the larger, more expensive rooms in the tranquil back courtyard, where you can sit under the date trees and listen to the evening chorus of cicadas in the summer. The hotel's small restaurant serves good Sichuan, Guangdong, and Shandong dishes. Nearby Nan Luogu Xiang, with its many Western and Chinese restaurants, coffee shops, bars, boutiques, and local Beijing color, is reason enough to stay here if luxury is not your top priority.
