Built in the late 1990s, this hotel is situated in the Jianguomenwai commercial area of Beijing, not far from the embassy district. From the hotel, it's just a 10-minute walk to the Ancient Observatory, Silk Market, Friendship Store, and to the Red Gate Gallery, which exhibits contemporary Chinese art in one of the few remaining towers of the old city wall. A restored section of the city wall begins at the Red Gate Gallery, making for a pleasant stroll. The simple rooms have good city views. The Sports City Café broadcasts sports events from around the world and serves up American food along with beer, wine, and cocktails. Sampan (in the lobby) serves decent dim sum and other Cantonese dishes.
