Jing Wei Lou (Jngwèilóu)

Jing Wei Lou (Jngwèilóu) Review

Always crowded with locals, this "House of Beijing Flavors" focuses on traditional local fare. Dishes include ma doufu (mashed fermented soybeans), zha guanchang (fried mung-bean chips), and a variety of mutton dishes. The two-story building has red pillars; the entrance is guarded by a statue of a man traditionally dressed and holding a birdcage—check out his Manchu queue (the hair braid men were forced to wear during the Qing Dynasty). A semi-open kitchen around the inner dining room gives the restaurant the flavor of an Old Beijing courtyard house.
