Formerly the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, the Pan Pacific Suzhou is still the city's most luxurious and unique five-star hotel. A two-story stone entrance topped by a pagoda lobby is modeled after the Pan Gate. Here musicians welcome guests by playing the erhu (Chinese violin) and singing traditional ballads in the Suzhou Pingtan dialect. The new Pacific Club rooms are pricier, but the extra cost buys access to a two-hour happy hour, all-day snacks, afternoon tea in the club lounge, and use of the business center. All guests can use the fitness center, and the striking outdoor Roman-style pool is fun. Try to get a courtyard-facing room, as views of the garden are stunning. The pagoda lounge bar overlooks Suzhou's gardens, canals, peach trees, and the Ruiguang Pagoda in nearby Pan Gate.
