Hongcun Village (Hóng cūn)

Hongcun Village (Hóng cūn) Review

An arched bridge leads to Hongcun Village. From above, the village is said to resemble a buffalo. Two 600-year-old trees mark its horns, a lake its belly, and streams diverted for irrigation are its intestines. In recent years a number of films have been partially shot here, including Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Several large halls and old houses are open to tour. The Salt Merchant's House is especially well preserved, with intricate decorations and carvings that were unharmed during the Cultural Revolution.
