First Gate Under Heaven (Tianxiadiyiguan) Review
The First Gate Under Heaven is the city's eastern portal. Walking along the top (you have to pay an extra Y2, but it's worth it), you can gaze down at the fortifications and imagine how intimidating they must have been to potential invaders. Not that it worked forever: the Manchus overran the city in 1644. Through binoculars you can see remaining sections of the Great Wall snaking up nearby mountains.
