Fodor's Review

This government-funded attraction mimics daily life from a generation or two ago by re-creating a number of traditional Arab Bedouin activities. One of the more vibrant atmospheres you'll encounter here is the desert camp, where numerous sounds and smells will assail you. Watch as the ladies do embroidery and the men work metal while you eat skewers of meat that were cooked over coals and sip from cups of sweet mint tea. Shepherds watch over their flocks of desert sheep, and others in traditional dishdasha tend camels or prepare falcons for a hunt. On Arabic feast days and each night during Ramadan, the Heritage Village puts on a feast fit for the sheikhs with traditional dancing and fine foods. However, visit at the wrong time—particularly during the afternoon any time of year—and you may see only a tacky tourist souk.
