No matter what you need material for—curtains, a business suit, or a fancy ball gown—this souk has it all. Hundreds of tiny neighboring shops with thick wooden shutters showcase samples of their speciality materials in doorways and on walls. Most of the fabric comes from India and China, and includes quality cottons for the Emirati dishdasha and sheer bejewelled fabrics for the colorful saris worn by Hindu women. You can order a full skein of cloth to take home. Or
if there's a favorite garment you'd like to duplicate, you can have one made from your chosen fabric within a couple of days. Numerous stalls on the fringes of the souk sell kitschy souvenirs, from sequined slippers to belly-dancing outfits, and colorful imports from India add to the allure.
