If you stand in front of the church on Van der Stel Street, you will see a wine barrel indicating the road to Twee Jonge Gezellen estate, which is about 8 km (5 miles) from town. The House of Krone at Twee Jonge Gezellen specializes in the production of MCC sparkling wine. One of the finest and oldest wineries in the area, it's best known for its fantastic Cap Classique—Krone Borealis Brut. But many Capetonians are more familiar with the tried and trusted TJ39, an easily drinkable, well-priced blend of weisser (white) Riesling, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc that has been making a regular appearance on local tables for years. The Krone Engeltjipipi (referring to—er—a certain body waste of little angels) is a blend made from grapes naturally infected with botrytis (a type of fungus) and considered a gift from the cherubs. The grapes are harvested by hand over a number of nights at the end of the season.
