This winery sits at the head of a shallow valley, backed by hillsides covered with vines and fynbos. It's a lovely place for lunch on a sunny day, and you can also take horseback rides through the vineyards. The Victorian Restaurant serves à la carte meals and teas on an oak-shaded terrace overlooking the gardens and mountains; in inclement weather meals are served in the Cape Dutch Restaurant, which also has a child-friendly Sunday buffet lunch. You can also order a picnic basket for two, brimming with fresh baguettes, cold meats, delicious cheeses, dips, koeksisters (doughnuts), and milk tart, for around R295. The Estate Chardonnay 2012 is wonderfully fresh, with a lovely balance of citrus flavors and toasty overtones. Also try the 2010 Estate Mourvèdre, a Grenache and Shiraz blend. It's a spicy wine with layers of dark fruit and savory aromas.
