Fodor's Expert Review Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project

The Western Cape and Winelands Private Guides

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

The community-driven Clanwilliam Living Landscape Project has trained locals to act as guides. Expect to pay around R120 for a one-hour tour that includes a visit to two sites, and R220 for a full tour, which takes about three hours. If you don't have your own vehicle, the guide can pick you up, but you'll be charged a little extra for gas. To see some majestic scenery, take a three-day hike from the Living Landscape Project headquarters through the dramatic Cederberg mountain range. Donkey carts are used to transport your luggage from cottage to cottage in the Moravian Mission villages of Heuningvlei, Brugkraal, and Wupperthal. Expect to pay R2,175–R3,250 per person.
