Fodor's Expert Review Camphors at Vergelegen

$$$$ Somerset West International

Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.

In summer, you'll need to reserve a table weeks in advance at this idyllic restaurant on the Vergelegen Estate (ask for a table on the terrace). With a big emphasis on fresh, free-range, and ethically farmed produce, the innovative menu from chef Micahel Cooke, is ever-changing with seasonal items like seafood potjie with seaweed and herbs or tea-smoked duck with farm berries and hibiscus. Desserts include dishes like burnt milk, honey, and bergamot served with kombucha. Even better, the tasting menu with wine pairing includes sublime Vergelegen wines. If you'd prefer to get a bottle of wine, the sommelier will gladly make suggestions. If you can’t get a lunch reservation, head to the estate’s Stables at Vergelegen, a child-friendly bistro with simpler—but equally delicious—food.
