At the end of Annandale Road, Hidden Valley Estate perches on a mountain ridge, flanked by the splendor of fynbos covered hills and a silvery grove of olive trees. Overlooking this bucolic scene on an enormous shaded veranda is Overture, the estate's spectacular upscale restaurant. While it's only open two days a week, this is the kind of place where you settle in for hours. The constantly changing menu of seasonal ingredients manifests a pure love of food, further evidenced
in the constant presence of the head chef and owner, who comes to chat with diners in between plating dishes like confit chicken and liver terrine and a perfect white bean risotto with pickled shallots and buffalo mozzarella. Expect an extremely good value for this level of cuisine; the menu can be ordered a la carte or in four, five, or eight course tasting menus, all of which can be paired with excellent wines from the estate and beyond. Service is friendly, competent, and unobtrusive; that is to say, just right.
