Diemersfontein Wine & Country Estate Review

Built in the 19th century, this historic farmstead is set in a lush garden with rolling lawns and abundant roses and azalea bushes. The farm has been transformed into a lifestyle estate—with private houses, a small school, and lovely cottages where you can stay. The rooms are comfortable and decorated in a relaxed country style with floral throws and fresh flowers. The farm produces a range of noteworthy wines, which you can taste; highlights include the flagship Carpe Diem Pinotage, the Carpe Diem Viognier 2006, and the Thokozani white blend of sauvignon blanc, chenin blanc, and viognier. Seasons restaurant ($) serves, appropriately enough, seasonal meals and is a wonderful venue for a late brunch or leisurely lunch. If you want something low-key, order a picnic basket to take onto the grounds. If you're feeling energetic, try your hand at bass fishing or horseback riding on the estate.
