Montagu Country Hotel

27 Bath St., Montagu, Western Cape, 6720, South Africa

This salmon-color hotel was built in Victorian times but was extensively remodeled in the early 1930s; the present owner, Gert Lubbe, highlights its many art-deco features and collects furniture and artifacts from this era to complement the interior. A well-trained staff ensures efficient and personal service. The hotel has a wellness center and mineral pool. The Wild Apricot restaurant serves an excellent breakfast, satisfying no-frills lunch, and similarly straightforward dinner, with the addition of traditional country favorites like Karoo-lamb pie or Cape Malay bobotie. Live music provided by a pianist in the dining room each evening adds to the genteel atmosphere.
