And now for something completely different: In an old train parked on the beach, this lodging uses real train compartments for accommodations. Most of the compartments are not exactly luxurious but the location is hard to beat. Book way ahead to secure one of four Royal Suites, located in two vintage coaches with authentic wood panelling, which have en-suite bathrooms and private, sea-facing balconies. If you're on a really tight budget, there's a 16-bed dorm with a self-catering
kitchen. The restaurant (¢–$) is almost always busy and serves the usual fish, steak, and burgers. You'll also find a good range of traditional South African dishes, such as bobotie (a dish of spicy ground meat with savory custard topping) and waterblommetjiebredie (water-flower stew)—don't knock it till you've tried it.
