Fodor's Expert Review Galago

Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.

A delightful and affordable alternative to other upscale lodges, Galago, which means "lesser bush baby" in Shangaan, is a converted U-shaped farmhouse whose five rooms form an arc around a central fireplace. There's a big, shady verandah where you can sit and gaze out over the open plain before cooling off in the plunge pool. You can bring your own food and do your own cooking or bring your own supplies and let the camp's talented chef cook it for you. Game drives and walks are led by your own ranger. As you must rent the whole house (sleeps six), it's the perfect camp for a family safari or friends' reunion.
