Thornybush Nature Reserve

Take the R40 from Hazyview to Acornhoek. Turn right after 7.4 km (4.6 miles) and take the Guernsey turnoff. Check in at the security gate, drive approximately 11 km (6.8 miles), and turn left at the T-junction. You’ll find the Thornybush Nature Reserve Gate on your right after approximately 4 km (2.5 miles). There are daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg to Hoedspruit Airport by SA Express.

There are also daily scheduled flights from Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town to Skukuza Airport and Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport on SA Airlink (lodge transfers can be arranged).

Situated within 34,594 acres of pristine wilderness, adjacent to the Greater Kruger National Park in Limpopo, Thornybush Nature Reserve is set among classic bushveld scenery. There are nine comfortable, unpretentious lodges offering friendly service, excellent food, and great game. Thornybush was the first lowveld reserve to implement rhino horn treatments (injecting poison that is harmless to the rhinos) as a form of anti-poaching (some disproven but popular traditional Asian medical treatments use rhino horn), and one of the first to introduce elephant contraception as an alternative to culling.
