By Bus in Johannesburg

Intercity buses depart from Braamfontein's Rotunda, the city's principal transportation hub, opposite the main train station at Leyds and Loveday streets. It's a reasonably well-run operation, but gets quite busy and is not in a very safe area—avoid it at night. Be attentive at all times—tourists are sometimes mugged here. Greyhound and Translux operate extensive routes around the country. Intercape Mainliner runs to Cape Town. The Baz Bus does not depart from the Rotunda but operates a hop-on, hop-off door-to-door service, stopping at backpackers' hostels between Johannesburg and Durban or Jo'burg and Cape Town on two routes—via the Drakensberg or via Swaziland.
