Johannesburg Shopping

Whether you're after designer clothes, the latest books or DVDs, high-quality African art, or glamorous gifts, Johannesburg offers outstanding shopping opportunities. Dozens of malls, galleries, and curio shops are scattered throughout the city, often selling the same goods at widely different prices. It's best to shop around.

Johannesburg has more malls than seems healthy, especially in the northern suburbs. Most are quite exclusive, with shops selling the latest from Italy, France, and the States, but you might get it cheaper at home. Most malls also have department stores, such as Edgars and Woolworths (which stocks good-quality food and clothes). Mall hours are usually Monday-Saturday 9-5, 9-2 on Sunday.
