As its overriding theme, this boutique hotel in a game estate in the Cradle of Humankind aptly alludes to the mysterious and fascinating story of the development of humanity. Artworks of bygone years adorn the walls and the modern architecture takes into account the landscape. The windows have sweeping views and natural veld (pronounced "felt")—long, African grasses—grows on the rooftops. Ideally located within the World Hertage Site, the hotel offers patrons visits to the Sterkfontain Caves and the Wonder Caves, famous for their stalactites and stalagmites. The superb in-house restaurant, Roots, specializes in French cooking. There's also a gallery and wine cellar on the property.
