Maropeng Visitor Centre
Maropeng Visitor Centre Review
The impressive Maropeng Visitor Centrecomprises displays, interactive exhibits, and even an underground boat ride (popular with kids) through the elements of water, air, wind, and fire. Maropeng means "returning to the place of origin" in Setswana, the area's main indigenous language. It's a one-stop tourist destination, with restaurants, a boutique hotel, an arts-and-crafts market, an interpretative center, and an amphitheater with cultural events. Exhibits are vast and are mostly housed in a giant underground chamber. A large area is dedicated to human evolution, and the lifelike models of human ancestors draw much attention. Download a map from the Web site. The excellent boutique hotel on the premises is known for its service and spectacular view of the Magaliesberg Mountains.
