One of the few stylish dinner-and-dancing venues near the city, Pigalle is an eclectic mix of sumptuous reds, art-nouveau-inspired light fixtures, and reproductions of Andy Warhol's Elvis images. Although it's open for lunch, the place comes alive at dinner, when a jazz band plays lounge-style tunes before upping the tempo and welcoming diners to the dance floor. The Portuguese cuisine includes starters of trinchado (panfried beef cubes with a tangy sauce) and grilled KwaZulu-Natal baby lobster served with a pineapple-chili salsa, but seafood (and langoustines in particular) is recommended simply grilled with either lemon-garlic or Portuguese-style peri-peri (a type of chili) bastings. The steaks are also delicious. The excellent staff seems to glide between tables as if still at the ice rink that used to be here.

The ambiance at Pigalle was wonderful and very romantic. The food was good, but not spectacular. Actually the best part of our meal was the yummy, freshly baked garlic rolls that the waiter recommended for an appetizer. They were delicious.. I could've eaten 2 or 3! The live band is a little cheesy, but it adds to the romantic atmosphere.
