Haiku

Haiku Review

This is still the best Pan-Asian restaurant in town, and it's worth putting up with the waiting lists, multiple seatings, and a complex menu of dim sum, sushi, and wok-fried items. A tip: allow your server to order for you, though we do suggest starting with steamed scallop siu mai (a traditional Chinese dumpling) with salmon roe for tongue fireworks. The Peking duck with paper-thin pancakes is delicious. Grills include mint lamb chops served with dry red chilies and garlic. On the sushi menu, the salmon roses—thin sashimi curls filled with mayonnaise and topped with pink caviar—are outstanding. Four kitchens mean that dishes arrive when ready. Although this provides the freshest dining experience, it may mean fellow diners watch while you eat, or vice versa. The owners of Haiku also own Bukhara, the excellent Indian restaurant above it. There's a minimum per person of R170.
