You won't find another hotel at the Waterfront offering rates so low. Built in a converted 19th-century prison on Portswood Ridge, the Breakwater certainly won't win any awards for charm or coziness. Its history is quite evident in the long, narrow corridors, which lead to tiny, sparsely furnished cells (sorry, rooms). Nevertheless, the rooms are clean and have TVs, phones, and tea/coffeemakers. Ask for a room with a view of Table Mountain.

Breakwater Lodge is a hotel for anyone that needs to watch their budget. the rooms and restaurant prices are great! We were out for most of the day, so didnt need to spend much time in our rooms. The rooms are basic, but clean and comfortable. The hotel is right in the V&A Waterfront so we didnt need to worry about car hire at all, although the staff can arrange this for you. Most of the action is in the Waterfront and when we wanted to gallavant in other places (city centre or Camps Bay etc), we just took a taxi arranged by the staff. I would definitly recommend this hotel as it is well priced and the location is great.
