Montebello Craft & Design Centre

Fodor's Review:

This old building nestled under tall, shady trees houses a number of job-creation projects. This is a good place to shop if you have only a short time, as you'll find textiles, ceramics, jewelry, handbags, and sought-after Madiba dolls (Madiba is a term of endearment for Mandela; these soft dolls are fashioned after the great South African icon). For a break from shopping you can have a delicious light lunch or tea at the Gardener's Cottage (021/689-3158) in the complex.
