This tiny Kalk Bay landmark, furnished with mismatched tables and a counter along the window, has long been a well-kept secret among locals and regular visitors. The quality of the mostly Mediterranean fare is consistently high, and the servers are consistently sassy. A delectable vegetarian dish of eggplant rolls—filled with butternut squash, ricotta, and sweet potato and sauced with piquant tomato—is always popular. A choice of pasta may include fresh tuna when available or tomato with fresh basil and chili. During peak times people will queue to get in, so get there early. The croissants and crusty loaves from the café's bakery around the corner are available to purchase to take home.
