Among South Africa's most lauded fine-dining restaurants, La Colombe recently moved its award-winning French-Asian cuisine to a new location on the Silvermist organic wine estate overlooking the Constantia wine valley. Return visitors will be happy to know that favorites like the seared scallops and pork belly starter and foie-gras topped meat dishes remain, although with a slightly increased focus on the creative Asian twists: the scallops are now miso-seared, and the pork belly done Asian barbeque-style and served with a lemongrass and ginger velouté. For more traditional tastes, dishes like the aged beef in a black pepper café au lait sauce are sure to delight. The new space is both intimate and cool, the simple white-painted timber offset by charcoal finishes and black beams, all flooded with light and stunning views during the day, and elegantly refined in the evening. The lunch menu is à la carte, while dinner is a 4-course affair (a gourmand tasting menu will be offered as
well). However you order, consider pairing you meal with wines chosen from the excellent wine list, and conclude with one of the spectacular desserts and the chef's signature petits fours. Understated smooth service and the bucolic location will ensure that La Colombe will remain a favorite Cape Town splurge.
