Once a fashionable resort town, this is now one of the most cosmopolitan areas of Cape Town. Many of the beautiful art deco beachfront buildings that were fast becoming slums have been renovated into upscale apartments. New restaurants like the popular Knead, the great Sinnful ice cream shop next door, and numerous fish-and-chip shops have opened, and property prices are soaring. Muizenberg now appeals to families, beginner surfers, and stand-up paddleboarders. Surf shops offering lessons, rental boards, and wet suits line the beachfront. A dated pavilion houses a swimming pool, waterslides, toilets, changing rooms, and snack shops.
